Baseball Bloggers Alliance
The Baseball Bloggers Alliance was originally founded in 2009 in an effort to foster communication and collaboration between bloggers across baseball. The group was formed initially in April but did not truly take off running until September of that year. Member blogs are encouraged to use one another to deepen their understanding of the game and the teams that play it.
As a secondary aim, the BBA member blogs vote throughout the year on the Hall of Fame ballot, All Star Game selections, and year end awards in a similar fashion to the Baseball Writer’s Association of America. To prevent any conflict, the BBWAA asked us not to utilize the same formal names for each year end award so we opted to rename ours to honor various legends of the game’s history. They are as follows:
- the Willie Mays Award (top rookie)
- the Stan Musial Award (top player)
- the Walter Johnson Award (top pitcher)
- the Goose Gossage Award (top reliever)
- the Connie Mack Award (top manager)
- the Joe Posnanski Award (top writer with a strong Internet presence)
As of January 2012 the BBA currently consists of 347 total active members broken into 36 Chapters – one for each team plus additional Chapters dedicated to General Baseball, Baseball History, Fantasy Baseball, and others. This blog currently is a member of the General Chapter, the largest individual Chapter within the BBA. Since October 2011 I have also managed District on Deck, a member of the Washington Nationals Chapter, serving as the site’s Editor & Lead Writer.
From September 2010 through August 2011 I served as President of the General Chapter. Since August 2011 I have been assisting with a variety of duties while serving as Vice President of the BBA.
